Software Developer - Early Career

General Motors is seeking a Software Developer for their Vehicle Mechatronics Embedded Controls team. The successful candidate will work in Agile Scrum teams to design, develop, and deploy embedded software for vehicle systems, collaborating with various stakeholders to create features for GM's next generation of vehicles. Responsibilities Collaborate with Product Managers, Testers, and other Developers, using methods like Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD) to create and implement Features for GM’s next generation of EV and ICE vehicles You’ll be required to design, implement and integrate complex embedded software systems in hand-coded C, with some flexibility to choose implementation methods Develop and maintain Unit tests and Multicomponent tests to ensure thorough software testing, and execute model/code equivalences testing Participate in the Agile Team and Agile ceremonies as required Interface with GM internal teams – Calibrators, Vehicle Integration Teams, etc Interface with GM suppliers to define and test the libraries they provide Utilize debugging tools like Lauterbach to identify root causes and resolve defects Skills Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Software, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience Experience with writing and debugging C code and/or Rational Rhapsody Embedded software development experience preferred; familiarity with GM or other automotive software standards (eg. AUTOSAR), test procedures and build processes an asset Experience with CppUTest framework including debugging CppU Tests and implementing dynamic scheduler Experience with software configuration management processes and tools (e.g. Git Ecosystem) preferred Experience in deciphering Ethernet, CAN and LIN Logs Development / testing experience on SIL/HIL or other virtual environments Intrinsically motivated; Scrum Team members are expected to pursue their goals with a high degree of independence and motivation Good oral and written communication skills are required, and high level of interpersonal skills to work effectively in a geographically dispersed team Ability to manage time and meet deliverable timing is critical Pursuit of a Bachelor's or Master's degree in one of the following areas: Mechatronics, Software, Electrical, Computer Engineering or any related Engineering field Must be graduating between December 2025 and August 2026 Experience with software configuration management processes and tools (e.g. Git Ecosystem) Prior experience working in Agile / Scrum / SAFe is an asset Experience in any of the domains noted above an asset but not required (vehicle access, occupant position, protection, vision & visibility, and comfort/HVAC) Benefits Paid time off including vacation days, holidays, and supplemental benefits for pregnancy, parental and adoption leave.
