The State of Utah is seeking a Legal Secretary to support the Office of State Debt Collection in managing and collecting state receivables. The role involves preparing legal documents, communicating with state courts, and negotiating payment agreements with debtors.
Responsibilities
- Request and prepare wage garnishments on debtors
- Verify debtor employment information
- Review current garnishments to ensure the debtor's employer is complying
- Research and prepare legal documents
- Communicate with state courts regarding hearings and legal questions
- Answer incoming phone calls from debtors and employers
- Process incoming mail by scanning and noting the appropriate accounts
- Send legal documents to process server to be served
- Negotiate payment agreements with debtors
- Research public records using state court and other government databases
- Other tasks as assigned by the attorney or management
Skills
- 1 or more years of experience preparing and filing documents with the court
- 1 or more years of experience in collections, especially for a legal office dedicated to debt collection
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Phone experience, inbound call experience
- Customer Service
- Experience with Microsoft office and google products
