Our client, a global K-12 publisher that focuses on English language teaching and learning connects students and teachers, offering them a collaborative, mobile learning environment in the classroom or digitally from home. They are looking for a Social Studies Content Editor to join their team who will edit rounds of student books, teacher guides and assessments. This position will focus on a 5-level elementary (grades 1-5) social studies program that teaches geography, history, civics, and economics, from a global perspective and a MENA (Middle East North Africa) perspective. The ideal candidate would have experience writing and editing assessment items on Middle Easter content. Middle Eastern content and have knowledge of current and past Middle Eastern history. This role is offered as a 6-month freelance contract. Major Tasks/Responsibilities • Content editing manuscript rounds of Student Book, Teacher Guide, and Assessments • Content editing Pages (PDF rounds) of Student Book, Teacher Guide, and Assessments Project Description • My client is developing a 5-level elementary Social Studies program that teaches geography, history, civics, and economics from both a global perspective and a MENA (Middle East North Africa) perspective • Components per grade include: 2 consumable Student Book volumes, 2 Teacher Guide volumes, and online digital assessments authored into Learnosity • Content strictly aligns with the Social Studies Framework and the 10 Themes of the NCSS • Content adheres to a strict House Style Guide and MENA Cultural Sensitivities Guide. • A vendor is on board to write manuscript and research art. Specific Tasks Needed • Edit manuscript and PDF pages across 5 levels of Social Studies • Embody flexibility and willingness to help shoulder editorial duties on several other projects. Draw on experience to present creative solutions to challenges and develop strategies regarding the editorial process and workflow. • Thoroughly edit content to ensure alignment with standards and the 10 Themes of NCSS • Identify and track any Social Studies standards that happen to align with my client’s program. • Adhere to my client’s existing editorial checklist when editing during rounds which includes checking: skills, special features, reading level (on-level USA), artwork as it supports Work cohesively and closely with the editorial team and report to the General Manager of Publishing • Maintain positive communication with vendors and internal departments • Be available for Zoom meetings with the teams in the USA, Dubai, and India (meetings take place in the morning EST). • Communicate with the team via company email and WhatsApp regularly throughout the workweek • Work efficiently, carefully, and consistently to achieve tight deadlines Requirements • Bachelor’s Degree • 5+ years of experience as an editor in educational publishing • Experience as a content editor on past Social Studies, ELA, or humanities projects. • Experience as a content editor for elementary grades (1–5) • Experience editing content to ensure alignment to educational standards • Ability to do quick rewrites in Manuscript • Experience working with and developing major and minor mapping, trackers (vocabulary, standards, skills, special features, etc.), and assessment blueprints • Experience adhering to House Style Guides • Fact-checking experience • Eye for detail and quick page turnover • Ability to work efficiently with Adobe Pro, MS Office, shared documents (both creating and contributing to) on Google Drive or MS OneDrive, company datashare via FTP applications • Ability to adapt to changes in direction over the course of the project • Knowledge of world geography • Knowledge of civics and government structures • Knowledge of global history • Knowledge of economics • Copyediting and proofreading Preferred • Previous work on Middle Eastern content • Knowledge of current and past Middle Eastern history • Ability to create and contribute to aligning and correlating standards • Ability to create and contribute to mapping documents and trackers • Native English speaker (1st language) • Experience writing and editing assessment items • Experience editing within Learnosity, the online platform my client uses to build assessments Expected salary: Location: USA Apply for the job now!
