About the position Kemper Life is seeking a Regulatory Compliance Counsel to join its Legal Department. This role is crucial for providing legal guidance and ensuring compliance within the heavily regulated insurance industry. The position requires a proactive attorney with a strong understanding of insurance laws and the ability to manage complex legal matters while supporting the Life Division's strategic initiatives. Responsibilities • Coordinate, direct and advise on Market Conduct Exams. • Manage the Regulatory Change Management and Compliance Monitoring processes. • Oversee consumer and department of insurance complaint process. • Monitor and implement insurance laws, regulation and guidance. • Provide legal advice on all aspects of the life insurance business including the design, sale and administration of life and other insurance policies and agent and distribution matters. • Provide proactive and timely legal counsel in support of strategic and tactical business initiatives. • Identify and mitigate risk to Company by providing relevant counsel and effective business-focused solutions. • Build and maintain relationships with regulators and industry stakeholders. • Support business partners in finding legally compliant solutions to challenging business problems. • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with management and internal business clients, agents, outside counsel and Company partners to gain a deep understanding of the Company's business, challenges, risks and opportunities. • Prepare various regulatory filings and draft policy forms. Requirements • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from ABA-accredited institution and member in good standing of the Missouri Bar (or equivalent). • Four or more years of combined law firm and in-house legal experience in the insurance industry; life insurance experience is a plus. • Demonstrated experience interacting with state insurance regulators to resolve issues and meet company objectives. • Superior verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Results driven with strong business acumen possessing the ability to influence others. • Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization and the flexibility to adapt to and lead through change. • Strong intellectual curiosity and a positive attitude.
