Principal Business Intelligence Engineer

Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Principal BI Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of enterprise-level business intelligence solutions. The ideal candidate will be an expert in Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and Databricks, with a deep understanding of modern data platforms, best practices in data modeling, and enterprise reporting strategies. This role will be pivotal in shaping our BI architecture, guiding technical standards, and enabling data-driven decision-making across the organization. Responsibilities Solution Architecture & Development • Architect, design, and deliver scalable BI solutions using Power BI, Fabric, and Databricks to meet business needs. • Develop and optimize semantic models, DAX measures, and dataflows for performance and maintainability. • Implement data lakehouse patterns leveraging Microsoft Fabric OneLake and Databricks Delta Lake. Data Integration & Transformation • Collaborate with data engineering teams to design ETL/ELT pipelines using Databricks and Fabric Data Factory for ingestion, transformation, and enrichment. • Ensure data quality, consistency, and governance through robust data modeling and validation practices. Performance Optimization & Governance • Lead efforts to optimize query performance, dataset refresh times, and Power BI report responsiveness. • Establish BI development standards, governance policies, and best practices for enterprise BI solutions. Collaboration & Leadership • Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, and analysts to translate complex requirements into actionable BI deliverables. • Mentor BI developers and analysts, fostering knowledge sharing and technical growth. • Serve as the subject matter expert on Power BI Premium, Fabric Workspaces, Databricks SQL, and Lakehouse architecture. Qualifications • 7+ years of experience in BI solution design and development, with 5+ years in a senior or principal role. • Expert-level proficiency in Power BI (data modeling, DAX, Power Query, report design, deployment pipelines). • Deep expertise with Microsoft Fabric including OneLake, Data Factory, Dataflows, and Synapse Data Engineering within Fabric. • Proven experience building large-scale data pipelines and transformations in Databricks using PySpark or SQL. • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and data governance principles. • Experience with CI/CD for BI solutions and integration into DevOps processes. • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills. Preferred Qualifications • Experience with Azure Data Lake Storage, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure DevOps. • Knowledge of Data Mesh, Lakehouse, and modern data architecture patterns. • Familiarity with ML/AI integration in BI solutions using Databricks Machine Learning or Azure ML. • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Expert, Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate, or equivalent certifications. #LI-AN2 Pay Range USD $130,000.00 - USD $160,000.00 /Yr.
