The Survey Technician supports surveying and mapping activities for utility and infrastructure projects, including electric transmission. This role assists survey crews and project teams in collecting accurate field data, preparing survey documentation, and supporting engineering and construction operations. The Survey Technician ensures data accuracy and compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and company procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Assist survey crews in performing topographic, boundary, route, and construction surveys for power delivery and utility infrastructure projects.
- Collect, record, and verify field measurements and geographic data for project planning and design.
- Support the preparation of survey maps, field notes, sketches, and reports using CAD or survey software.
- Upload, download, and manage survey data from field equipment to office systems.
- Ensure all survey work complies with company standards, project specifications, and safety requirements.
- Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and construction teams to ensure survey data meets project needs.
- Follow all company and client health, safety, and environmental policies.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or related field preferred).
- 3 years of experience in land surveying or utility surveying
- Familiarity with surveying equipment such as Trimble, Leica, or Topcon systems.
- Basic knowledge of surveying principles, measurements, and field procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering plans, maps, and technical drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather and terrain conditions.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on electric transmission, distribution, or utility infrastructure projects.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center or GIS software.
- OSHA safety training or utility industry safety certifications.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment
This position involves a combination of field support and office support while working from remote office site.
