APPLY NOW
Job description About ev.energyWe are on a mission to decarbonise the grid by making EV charging greener, cheaper, and smarter. We are building the world’s largest Virtual Power Plant (VPP). By connecting to vehicles, chargers, we turn EVs into flexible grid assets that balance supply and demand, preventing blackouts and reducing reliance on fossil fuels. We are scaling rapidly across North America and Europe. We are moving fast, we are AI-first, and we are looking for builders who want to power the grid of the future. The Role We're looking for a Senior Product Manager to join our Virtual Power Plant (VPP) team. In this role, you'll lead product for our VPP team, who are responsible for the software that collects grid signals, schedules EV charging, and processes charging data to deliver flexible energy services to utilities. You'll own the product vision and strategy for our VPP platform, manage roadmapping and quarterly planning, drive organisational alignment, and lead delivery of key commercial projects. You'll work with a team of 4 excellent engineers. This is a high-impact role reporting to the Director of Product Management. Our VPP is among the largest EV VPPs in the world: in 2025, it managed more than 200 GWh of energy and delivered £8.5M in user benefits. We're looking for someone who's ambitious, collaborative, a bit of a maverick, and deeply motivated by making a real difference for the planet. If you're excited about the future of clean energy and love working on cutting-edge AI-driven grid technology, we want to hear from you! Job requirements What Are We Looking For?- Product management: 4+ years of product management experience, ideally in technical domains such as energy, IoT, or backend systems - AI development: You've built AI-powered products and features that have demonstrated commercial or operational impact. You have experience working with data science and engineering teams to launch AI/ML-powered optimisation systems, predictive models, or intelligent agents that make autonomous decisions based on complex, dynamic inputs - Residential DERs: Deep experience working with EVs and/or residential batteries as distributed energy resources. You've built or managed products that aggregate and control residential DERs—particularly EV chargers and home battery systems—to deliver grid services. Familiarity with grid integration standards and protocols such as IEEE 2030.5 and OpenADR, or similar communication and interoperability standards. - US utility market: Proven experience working with US utilities to commercialise and deliver residential demand response, managed charging, or VPP programs. You understand how US utility programs are structured—from regulatory proceedings and rate cases to program design and enrollment—and you've shipped products that serve residential customers in the US market. Understanding the grid services value stack (demand response, capacity markets, energy arbitrage, etc.) and how residential DER technologies contribute value is essential. Essential Competencies- Communication: You have outstanding written and verbal communication skills. You communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences—from engineers to executives to customers. You're particularly strong at upward communication and keeping senior leadership informed and aligned. - Technical selling: You know how to present technical products to prospects and customers. You can articulate complex capabilities in compelling ways, handle technical objections, lead product demos, and contribute meaningfully to pitches and RFP responses. You've won business through effective technical selling. - Execution: You're highly organised and on top of everything. You're the reliable source of truth for what the team is building, when it will ship, and what the status is. You drive precise execution while managing complexity and ambiguity. You have strong project management skills, especially for high-stakes external engagements. - Engineering collaboration: You build strong partnerships with engineering leadership and know when to roll up your sleeves on critical details while maintaining strategic focus - Handling ambiguity: You’re comfortable working in high pace, dynamic, ambiguous startup environments where responsibilities shift as product and market needs evolve Job responsibilities What You'll Be Doing- Define residential DER vision and strategy: Own the product vision and 12-month strategy for our VPP platform, informed by regulatory developments, competitive dynamics, commercial opportunities, and emerging market trends—with a primary focus on the US residential energy market - Advance our home battery product: Own the development of ev.energy's new home battery product, defining the strategy for how residential battery systems integrate into our VPP alongside EVs and chargers. You'll be our resident expert—understanding how they participate in grid services, how they complement EV charging, and where the US residential battery market is heading - Drive AI-first innovation: Lead the integration of AI/ML models and agents into VPP operations—whether that's optimising charging decisions, automating operational workflows, improving data quality processes, or creating intelligent internal tools that multiply team productivity - Lead technical selling: Serve as the technical product expert in prospect pitches and customer demos, articulate our VPP capabilities and competitive advantages, and prepare technical content for RFP submissions to help win new utility partnerships - Support planning and prioritisation: Help the engineering team with sprint and quarterly planning for the VPP team through collecting input from other product teams, tracking sales commitments, drafting OKRs, and reconciling stakeholder asks - Manage projects: Lead partner migrations, customer deliveries, and pilot programs - Drive organisational alignment: Communicate the VPP team's work across the organisation through initiative briefs, progress updates, launch announcements, and executive reporting Job benefits Benefits The salary range for this role is: £68,800-£84,300 (offer dependent on experience). Key benefits include:- Equity, in the form of share options (granted as a % of your salary) - PMI and cash plan medical cover (via Bupa & Medicash) - Life assurance of 3x your salary - Co-working access via WeWork (on-demand or subscription) - Annual 'Team Week' whole company offsite - L&D allowance of £1,000 per year You can find out more about our full range of perks and benefits here.
