Foursquare Integrated Transportation Planning, Inc. (Foursquare ITP) is seeking a passionate and qualified graphic designer to join their growing team. The role involves creating compelling graphic designs for various formats and collaborating with project managers and teams to support client projects and internal marketing efforts.
Responsibilities
- Document Design, Layout, and Assembly: Creating compelling reports, posters, flyers, presentations, brochures, and other print and digital materials, including templates. Some of these are quite extensive and/or require creating multiple interdependent documents (e.g., diverse collateral for a transit outreach campaign). Also important is your knowledge of or ability to quickly learn best practices for accessible documents
- Visual Communication: Creating engaging infographics, diagrams, and illustrations that clearly tell their stories. These are often created for and applied throughout the documents above
- Branding and Identity Design: Developing branding and identities for transit projects or even entire public agencies, including developing promotional materials, prototypes/mockups, and templates for multiple platforms. This includes maintaining and applying the Foursquare ITP brand, such as creating promotional materials for company events and milestones
- Motion Graphics: Creating animations and videos of varying complexity to support transportation projects and outreach campaigns. This includes creating animated characters and scenes, working with recorded and stock footage, and working with other staff on scripting, pacing, and audio/narration
- Web Design: Creating prototypes/mockups of webpages and websites, especially for transit outreach campaigns. This includes working with other staff to integrate dynamic elements such as surveys and GIS maps. UI/UX and HTML knowledge is a plus – more important is a familiarity with accessibility best practices
- Wayfinding: Developing scenario, route, and system maps, transit route profiles and schedules, bus stop signs, and other wayfinding elements. This includes developing templates, processes, and data management methods for creating, outputting, and reviewing large volumes of signage, such as hundreds of bus stop signs for a transit network redesign. A familiarity with or ability to quickly learn best practices for wayfinding accessibility, assembly, and materials (e.g., sensory alternatives to visual wayfinding, pylon and panel design, signage mounting strategies, and integrating wayfinding into transit infrastructure like shelters and lampposts) is a plus
Skills
- Bachelor degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, or related field
- In lieu of a graphic design-related Bachelor degree, we will also consider candidates with a minimum of one year of relevant design experience
- Three plus years of work experience preferred
- Strong grasp of graphic design principles, especially in developing and applying coherent information hierarchies, consistent brands and identities, and accessibility best practices
- Demonstrated experience managing complex detail-oriented design tasks with extensive QA/QC needs, such as overseeing the production of lengthy documents with multiple contributors, diverse collateral for outreach campaigns, and large batches of signage or other wayfinding
- Passion for multi-modal transportation and an interest in growing your experience in the field
- Ability to manage your workload and effectively communicate your progress and capacity with project managers and team members, with demonstrated experience managing, coordinating, and collaborating with multiple staff on complex design projects
- Advanced capabilities in InDesign and Illustrator, with demonstrated experience using styles, templates, and tools/processes to manage long, complex, and large quantities of documents
- Acrobat knowledge (especially its document assembly and accessibility tools) is also required
- Experience with animation, video/photo editing, mockup/prototyping, and web design tools such as Figma, Balsamiq, Photoshop, After Effects, Premiere, Dreamweaver, or ArcGIS Hubs
