Graduate Lighting Designer- New York (Summer 2026)

They are seeking a Graduate Lighting Designer to engage in various responsibilities including environmental assessments, daylight design, and detailed lighting design for diverse projects. Responsibilities Environmental Impact Assessment work to meet planning requirements considering light spill analysis and overshadowing Sunlight & daylight massing analysis for architects and developers Daylight design including specification of control devices such as louvres and shading devices Lighting strategies & master-planning for public realm and cities Lighting concept designs Concept visualization & 3D light modelling Scheme outlines with cost feasibility Detailed lighting design including architectural integration detailing Lighting control specification Bespoke luminaire design Site monitoring, including programming of control systems and focusing of luminaires Skills Bachelor or Master's Degree in Architecture, Lighting, or Architectural Engineering Coursework and/or experience in architecture (studio and/or history), lighting, or building systems design Portfolio: Please include a link to your portfolio or attach it directly to your resume when applying Ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible manner Eagerness to learn and work as part of a multidisciplinary team Experience using AGI, Revit, Enscape, and Photoshop beneficial Experience in 3ds Max, ElumTools, Grasshopper or Rhino a bonus Interest in the lighting design industry with an emphasis on architectural lighting design or daylighting analysis Lighting related internship helpful Benefits Generous benefits package Annual discretionary bonus Generous PTO (4 weeks) in addition to 10 paid holidays 401k with company match Hybrid working & summer hours Reimbursement for certain professional licenses and associated renewals and exam fees Connection to global network of experts on the forefront of industry initiatives Access to wide ranging learning and development opportunities Be a part of supporting our diverse company culture through open engagement with our Young Employees Forum, Diversity and Inclusion Forum, Buro Happold Women's Network, and/or our Black at Buro Happold Employee Resource Groups Company Overview Buro Happold is an international, multi-disciplinary engineering consultancy.
