About the position Responsibilities • Interact professionally with internal departments and external authors and agents. • Perform administrative duties such as scheduling, photocopying, and handling mail. • Prepare materials for book projects through all stages of the editorial process. • Enter title data into proprietary database systems and maintain it throughout the publishing process. • Draft and circulate contract forms and descriptive copy for sales and marketing. • Attend and prepare materials for editorial and marketing meetings. • Read, report on, log in, track, and respond to submissions of projects. • Research book sales using internal and external databases. • Participate in brainstorming meetings and share ideas for books. Requirements • Passionate and knowledgeable about children's literature. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Highly organized, capable of multi-tasking, and detail-oriented. • Ability to work effectively with colleagues at all levels of seniority. • Self-directed and able to work independently. • Demonstrate imagination, creativity, and original thinking. • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel. Nice-to-haves • Familiarity with the Christy Ottaviano Books backlist catalogue.
