About the position Securian Financial offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate data professional eager to innovate and lead. As a Lead Data Engineer, you will take on a technical lead role, architecting, designing, developing, and automating scalable data pipelines that power cutting-edge AI and analytics solutions. This role focuses on technical leadership without direct reports. You will leverage your expertise and continuously learn to stay current with the latest trends and technologies in the dynamic data and analytics space. You will collaborate with teams including Data Science, Data Platform, Data Management, Enterprise Technology, and business partners to understand requirements, ensure data is trusted and accessible, and deliver creative solutions to business challenges. Responsibilities • Provide technical leadership to the Data Engineering team, guiding the definition, planning, delivery, and support of our modern data platform to enhance business value and growth. • Lead the design, construction, and optimization of complex data pipelines and transformations to support AI, advanced analytics, and other enterprise applications. • Architect scalable, flexible, and cost-effective enterprise data solutions, establishing and promoting architectural patterns and standards. • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, data scientists, and machine learning engineers, to understand requirements, prioritize tasks, and deliver impactful data solutions. • Mentor team members and provide consultation on best practices in data engineering and architecture to ensure optimal solutions are implemented. • Serve as a subject matter expert, offering technical guidance and industry best practices on data engineering architecture and migration patterns to leadership. • Implement data governance and security measures to ensure data is secure, accessible, and trusted. • Develop technical solutions that align with customer needs, business processes, and technical requirements to drive business outcomes. Requirements • 4-year degree in Computer Science or a related field. • 5+ years of architecture experience and 10+ years of designing and implementing data engineering pipelines for warehouse, lakehouse, and modern cloud-based solutions. • Proficient in data architecture with extensive hands-on experience in SQL, ETL/ELT, data storage options, data quality, and handling both structured and unstructured data. • Experienced with modern cloud-based data stacks, preferably Snowflake and AWS. • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills. • Excellent communication skills. • Curious and committed to continual learning. • Flexible and adaptable, capable of handling ambiguous and evolving requirements.
