Specialty Program Group Canada (SPG Canada) is a leading Delegated Underwriting Authority Enterprise focused on delivering innovative insurance solutions. They are seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter for their Roofing Contractors team to build broker relationships, perform risk analysis, and manage a book of profitable business. Responsibilities Perform risk analysis using internal and external data resources for the purpose of quoting, negotiating, and authorizing the renewal of existing policies and acceptance of new opportunities for risks of a low to moderate complexity, based on guidelines and retention goals of the company Handle endorsement requests within delegated authority and independently engage with brokers to clarify intent of requests or seek missing information Develop and support professional business partnerships with brokers by providing prompt service, responding to inquiries, acting proactively, taking ownership of issues, and resolving them with a solution-oriented approach Communicate underwriting decisions and respond to requests in a prompt and professional manner Make underwriting decisions based on imperfect information, where required Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external parties, including attending industry-related seminars and networking events as necessary Negotiate coverage with brokers within delegated authority parameters Manage, strengthen, and grow a book of profitable business Maintain compliance with established corporate guidelines and delegated authority parameters Work independently to meet deadlines while following company guidelines to accomplish goals Take ownership of work-related activities and follow through on commitments Deal effectively with pressure, maintain a positive outlook, and recover quickly from setbacks Prioritize and complete tasks to deliver desired outcomes within allocated time frames Take personal responsibility and action toward learning and implementing new ideas, methods, and technologies Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal Exhibit good decision-making and analytical skills Document assigned files to ensure completeness, compliance, and quality in line with documentation standards, maintaining a paper-free environment by uploading documents to company systems Complete loss reports and post-claim underwriting reviews Skills 1 – 3 year of commercial underwriting or commercial brokering experience Hold a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation (or are actively pursuing) Hold a broker license, or can qualify to obtain within 90 days Proficiency in Microsoft Office Familiar with the basic legal structures in Canada Can work in our office at least three days a week Experience with Roofing Contractors risks (Roofing, General Contractors, Equipment Breakdown, etc.) is considered an asset Benefits Dental care Extended health care Paid time-off RRSP match Vision care Company Overview At SPG Canada, we are insurance entrepreneurs united by a bold vision: to aggregate strengths and deliver unmatched value as Canada's largest Delegated Underwriting Authority Enterprise (DUAE).
