Team Description: The Veterinary Medicine team provides comprehensive clinical and surgical support for research animals, including anesthesia and perioperative care for neurosurgical procedures. The team ensures the highest standards of animal welfare through proactive medical management, collaboration with research staff, and continuous refinement of veterinary practices. Job Description and Responsibilities: The Clinical Veterinarian will support our research and development and non-clinical trial program aimed at the creation and deployment of a highly novel, large-scale neural interface for direct communication with the brain. They will provide veterinary care for sheep, Yucatan pigs, and non-human primates, including health monitoring, perioperative management, and oversight of housing and welfare. The Clinical Veterinarian will ensure compliance with all federal, state, and voluntary animal welfare laws and regulations. Responsibilities include helping to develop standard operating procedures for veterinary care and study implementation, and assisting research and clinical staff in the design and execution of in vivo studies. The Clinical Veterinarian will train technicians and study personnel on species-specific veterinary care, anesthesia, surgical procedures, and animal use laws and regulations. This position serves as a member of the IACUC, including participation in semi-annual inspections, and directs the veterinary technical team in managing the daily veterinary care operations. When applicable, duties will meet the requirements outlined in 21 CFR Part 58 (Good Laboratory Practices), 21 CFR Part 11 (Electronic Records; Electronic Signatures), the appropriate Study Protocol, and Neuralink SOPs. • Oversee the health and welfare of sheep, Yucatan pigs, and non-human primates through regular physical exams, clinical diagnostics, treatments, and preventive medicine programs • Develop, implement, and oversee anesthesia and analgesia protocols to support in vivo procedures. • Provide perioperative and postoperative care, manage pain control, and monitor recovery • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations as well as institutional and industry standards (IACUC, USDA, FDA, GLP, AAALAC) • Develop, review, and revise standard operating procedures (SOPs), veterinary protocols, health surveillance plans, and other technical documents • Collaborate with research staff in the design, planning, and execution of in vivo studies • Review and prepare preclinical study documentation and reports • Support facility management by advising on housing, enrichment, husbandry, environmental monitoring, and veterinary aspects of facility design or modifications Required Qualifications: • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent) • Eligible for state veterinary licensure • Minimum of 3 years of experience in laboratory animal medicine • Completion of a residency in laboratory animal medicine, or over 5 years of experience in the field • Demonstrated knowledge and skill in veterinary medical care and surgical techniques for large and small animals • Effective oral and written communication of veterinary and scientific information to technical, research, and clinical staff • Detailed knowledge of animal welfare regulations and best practices Preferred Qualifications: • Board certification or eligibility in Laboratory Animal Medicine (e.g., ACLAM Diplomate) • Prior experience providing veterinary care for sheep, swine, and/or non-human primates in research or clinical settings • Experience supervising and training veterinary or technical teams • Familiarity with controlled substances, DEA registration, and USDA accreditation processes • Experience working under GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) or other regulated research environments (e.g., USDA, FDA, AAALAC) • Experience contributing to or reviewing IACUC protocols and participating in semi-annual inspections • Excellent organizational, project management, and leadership skills, including team coordination and resource planning Additional Requirements and Competencies: • Exposure to animal bodily fluids, including blood • Lifting, pushing, pulling 50lbs Expected Compensation: The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the following range. Your actual base pay will be determined by your job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. We also believe in aligning our employees' success with the company's long-term growth. As such, in addition to base salary, Neuralink offers equity compensation (in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSU)) for all full-time employees.
